Are You Cloaking Your Links?

by Michelle Schneider Author

I'm sure you know all the reasons why you should cloak your links.
  1. It makes your links shorter and easier to share with others.
  2. It keeps your referral links safe. If you cloak your referral links, then it's much harder for someone to delete your referral code when following your link.
  3. Your links are easier to remember. With many link cloakers, you can choose a tag to use as part of the link. A tag with a recognizable word is much easier to remember than a link with random numbers or letters.
  4. You can use your cloaked links as a tracker. You can take one link and cloak it multiple times and use a different tag for each. Each tag would be different and correspond to where you plan to post the link. It's not the best form of tracking, but it's a quick method to see how many hits each posting location is giving you.
I know people have many excuses as to why they don't cloak their links. I know that for me the biggest was that it was too time consuming. I had to copy the link, then open the website to the link cloaker, then paste in my link to get my cloaked link. Finally, I had to select the new link and copy it. It was time consuming.

There is a faster and easier way to cloak links.

Many link cloakers now have plugins for Firefox that will cloak your links with just a couple clicks. It's much faster and easier than the old method.
